S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Entry-Level Construction Materials Testing Team Leader to join our Construction Services team in Duluth, Georgia. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!


What You Will Do:
As an entry-level Construction Materials Testing Team Leader, you play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and safety of construction projects by evaluating and confirming the quality of materials used. Under the guidance of a Licensed Engineer, you will manage field investigations, log soil samples, perform engineering calculations and designs, assist in preparing proposals and reports, and support projects and clients. Additionally, you will manage a team within an office, combining and utilizing organizational resources to ensure staff achieve their individual goals, contributing to the overall objectives of the office, region, market sectors, service lines, and the company.


  • Testing and Analyzing Construction Materials: Perform tests and oversee special inspections of materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards. Verify that construction plans and specifications align with project goals before conducting field observations.
  • Recording and Managing Field Activities: Document detailed observations and test results during project execution, using Metafield or other management systems daily for efficient data handling and coordination.
  • Preparing Reports and Proposals: Help draft reports and proposals for smaller projects, ensuring thorough and accurate assessments and documentation.
  • Communicating and Managing Staff: Interact with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency and provide regular updates on progress. Recruit, select, supervise, train, and mentor employees to build and maintain a strong team.
  • Utilizing Technology and Managing Resources: Use Microsoft Word, Excel, BST, and Workday for various tasks including proposals, payroll, billing, and employee data management. Oversee supplies, equipment, and vehicles, and support staff in obtaining necessary technical training, licenses, and certifications. Coordinate with other leaders to ensure resource availability.



    Who You Are:

    • You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a similar engineering field or a combination of education and experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
    • You are willing to obtain at least one (1) industry certification within 6 months of employment
    • You have basic math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language



      Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
      You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

      • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
      • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
      • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
      • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
